A salad is a dish that contains a combination of any of the following:
vegetables, grains,fruits,legumes,greens,pastas,meat,poultry,seafood etc.
Some salads are served hot,while some are served cold.
Salads can be served at any time during a meal.It can be served as
1). an appetizer
2). an accompaniment to compliment the main dish
3). a main course dish
4). after main course,to cleanse the palate
5). as a dessert
The word 'Salad' was first used in english during the 14th century and also finds a place of mention in one of Shakespeare's plays . The word 'Salad or Sallet' in english comes from the french word Salade derived from the latin Salate.
The sauces accompanying the salads are called dressing .And a salad has a topping and garnishing.
